H/D recs
It has been raining for the past 10 days. It's a really depressing weather but I guess it gave me some quality time with my kindle. I have read two wonderful, long fics that have been on the kindle for quite a while, but I never managed to find the time to read them before.

The Death Stone by jakuako [Harry/Draco, NC-17]
Word Count: 62,000
Summary: Twenty years after the Battle of Hogwarts there are still Death Eaters roaming free. But when Auror Ginny Weasley captures Draco Malfoy in a fight, the wheels of war are set back in motion. Dragged into the fray once again by the call of duty, Harry, Ron and Hermione must track down a lost artefact before the Death Eaters can do the unthinkable – bring Voldemort back from the grave.
This was written for hd_bigbang in 2011.

EWE, 20 years after the Battle of Hogwarts. On a Death Eater raid, Draco is captured by the Aurors (Ginny & Daphne Greengrass). He is taken into St. Mungo's; when he manages to flee, he comes across Luna -- a patient of the Janus Thickey Ward. She doesn't have any memories anymore and her body an empty shell, so Draco gives her one of his own memories. This sparks a speedy recovery, but at the same time, Luna shares a lot of character traits with Draco... And Harry is Luna's healer and quickly falling for her. Harry also has a habit to remove his bad memories after a nightmare, which leave him with something like partial amnesia.

All the while, there are Death Eaters who want to resurrect Voldemort with a second Death Stone, so Harry, Draco, Luna, Ginny and Daphne follow their traces to Egypt to stop them.

I have no words for how much I love this fic. The characterizations are just brilliant. I love how the author uses and explains Pensieves, memories, memory loss and the concept that we are made from our memories. The whole thing with Luna-who-is-Draco is so well done (and well resolved, too; don't let yourself be scared away, you OTP lovers. This is a H/D story in all aspects. ;)). The action plot is engaging and kept me glued to the screen. Overall, this story is just a wonderful ride. Don't miss it.

All Life is Yours to Miss by saras_girl [Harry/Draco, R]
Word Count: 115,000
Summary: Professor Malfoy's world is contained, controlled, and as solitary as he can make it, but when an act of petty revenge goes horribly awry, he and his trusty six-legged friend are thrown into Hogwarts life at the deep end and must learn to live, love and let go.
Yes, I finally managed to read Stanley's this story. :) I feel like reccing this is like preaching to the choire, because you all read it when it was still not-all-that-anonymous.

Draco is the Transfigurations professor, Harry is the Flying Instructor at Hogwarts. They carry out a petty rivalry, but then one of Draco's hexes goes wrong and it lands Harry in a coma. Draco has to take over all of Harry's duties, including those as Head of Gryffindor. Slowly Draco starts to become friends with others from the staff and some of his students, and he starts to live. He spends his nights in the hospital wing at Harry's bed, often accompanied by his oversized beetle Stanley. (which is the most adorable OC ever invented)

A wonderful, beautiful, amazing story of how Draco finds his place in live. Featuring great OC kids (and how do I love that none of them have recycled names, yet each of them has their very own character?). And Stanley. ♥ This is one perfect story.

Beautiful art for this beautiful fic:

those are both fics I haven't read yet. :) I'm not 100% sure about the bigbang one but I think it was one of the ones I didn't manage to read when I ran out of steam at the time...

I feel like I always point you to the really long fics, and then they're mostly written by saras_girl. ;)

I totally ran out of steam in the bigbang too. I always do. I don't know, but something like six fics with 50k+ words make me more likely to not read them than ten 25k fics.

haha :D well, i never complain when it's saras_girl. every story of hers i've read has been fantastic. (i've not read everything though. she did foundations and reparations, right? they're bookmarked and i'll read them eventually...)

yeah. and there was a fic in the bigbang i couldn't get through at all, so after that it was like meh, can't be arsed anymore. XD i should really revisit the bigbang and see what i'm still missing.

She's one of the authors whose H/D stories are as close to canon as they can get I think. Maybe not necessarily in terms of content but they just feel very much like the canon world of Hogwarts.
Reparations and Foundations are still my all time favourites of her, and also belong to my all time favourits overall. :) I think you just have to be in the mood to read something very long, and to really fall into this universe.

I tried reading some other bigbang story right before "Death Stone" with a very good premise/summary and I was sorely disappointed. It killed my enthusiasm a bit too.

yeah. :) i think my favourite might be turn or on a clear day. <3
exactly. i've got a bunch of epic fics bookmarked, from various fandoms, and i just don't really have the time or mood to read them at the moment. :/ i haven't even read any of the 00q bigbang fics yet. <.<

it's so annoying when that happens. <.<
