This journal is mostly for fandom purpose, with the occasional real life entry in between. I talk about Harry Potter a lot, but also about other shows, books, movies and everything that strikes my fancy.

♥ My main interest for a long time now has been HP fandom, especially Harry/Draco. I love my boys.
Teen Wolf has eaten my brain. I have no excuse.
♥ I read BBC Merlin Merlin/Arthur fic every once in a while but I'm not really part of that fandom.

Links of interest:

♦ My profile on pinboard: where you can find all my bookmarks. Can be used as rec and reference list. I bookmark pretty much everything I read nowadays with an overview of the fic and a comment. It's not complete for the H/D section (by far) because I started this after I had already inhaled tons of H/D fic, but I'm still adding old favourites.
Gateway to my Recs: a short explanation how to look for recs in my Livejournal or on pinboard
Masterpost for the "100 Things - Reccing Challenge"
Kinks & Squicks: A meme where I talk about what I like and don't like in HP fic.
♦ I'm on AO3 as well.

I have only just started writing a bit of Harry Potter Nextgen, and I feel a bit pretentious to create a "Masterlist", but I like things organised so here we go. I plan to add to it though. :)

Wow, Being more or less away from fandom for... boy, it's been two years.

♦ (Almost) graduated from medical school! *fistpump* That means I took the final written exam last october (after I spent four months basically living in the library, slowly making my way through 7000 multiple choice questions). That was really, really hard. And horrible. Now I'm a "PJ" at the hospital (a student in his last "practical year", where I rotate through different specialities for a year) until I take the last oral exam in November. And then I'm a doctor. Uh, I don't feel ready.

⚡ My prompt has been picked at Glompfest!!! I have received (wonderful ♥) gifts there before, but now my prompt has been claimed for ART! I'm ridiculously excited about that!

⚡ The last couple of weeks when I slowly started lurking around LJ again, I re-read a few old favourites. Especially in Merlin fandom (OMG, I love love love modern-royalty AUs!!! Is this still being written? any recs from the last years? Things like Student Prince? but any other epic modern-AUs would be most welcome too).
Those sucked me right back into fandom and reminded me how much I MISSED all of it.

But there were also SO MANY dead links in my bookmarks. *sobs* I know that people have their reasons for taking stuff down, but it still makes me sad. And it makes me glad that I used to be such a saving-whore, that I have my own copies of pretty much everything I ever read. My fandom folder is ginormous.

So, two years ago I recced a short film on Youtube. Now this little gem has been turned into a full length movie.

The Way He Looks (2014)

Leonardo is a blind teenager dealing with an overprotective mother while trying to live a more independent life. To the disappointment of his best friend, Giovana, he plans to go on an exchange program abroad. When Gabriel, a new student in town, arrives at their classroom, new feelings blossom in Leonardo making him question his plans.

I love it so much. ♥ It is charming, loving, funny and feels very real. It's a bit of a classic coming of age story, the main character just happens to be blind. And gay. :) One of my favourite movies from last year.

I would recommend anyone to buy the DVD, because there need to be more films like this, but if you can't/it's not available in your country, you can stream it online here and just fall a little in love with Leo and Gabriel.

I need to watch this movie. :)

Imdb says:

At the peak of her international career, Maria Enders is asked to perform in a revival of the play that made her famous twenty years ago. But back then she played the role of Sigrid, an alluring young girl who disarms and eventually drives her boss Helena to suicide. Now she is being asked to step into the other role, that of the older Helena. She departs with her assistant to rehearse in Sils Maria; a remote region of the Alps. A young Hollywood starlet with a penchant for scandal is to take on the role of Sigrid, and maria finds herself on the other side of the mirror, face to face with an ambiguously charming woman who is, in essence, an unsettling reflection of herself.

I have listened to the audio book of 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' these past few days and I kind of fell in love all over again. I haven't read the books in a while but now I was reminded why I love it so much and why GoF is my very favourite book of the series.

I think it really is a masterpiece. The are so many different plot lines and they are woven together perfectly: Quidditch, the International Wizarding World, the Triwizard Tournament, House Elves, Voldemort's Rise, Giants, Skeeter, Teenager Having Teenage Problems, The Wand Brothers. The complete picture is wonderful.
And the book is littered with red herrings; do you remember reading it for the first time? I suspected EVERYONE to be the enemy (Karkaroff, Crouch Sr, Bagman, Krum etc.), but never once Moody. Brilliant.
I love how JKR uses things that were introduced the first books (Polyjuice, Animagi, being able to be inside someone's memory) and expands them.

There were heart wrenching moments where I just had to stop doing what I was doing at the time, because I was so moved. Harry underwater; Harry in the graveyard - not wanting to die crouched behind a headstone but standing up; Harry clinging to Cedric's body; Harry being hugged by Mrs Weasley. ♥ Harry ♥ Harry ♥ Harry ♥

I'm going to listen to the whole series, in the next few weeks.

What is Firefox doing???
When I click on a page, any livejournal page, it goes like this:

It's loading and loading and loading and .... hours later, it is still loading. It is driving. me. CRAZY.
I don't have the problems with Chrome or IE, so it must be a firefox problem, but I have no idea what it could be. :(

The thing about JKR saying she should have put Harry with Hermione is, that now that the thought is out there, I can't put it out of my head again.
I just... I don't want to pick and choose my canon. I want to be able to trust JKR's opinion completely. I want to squeal when she opens new chapters on Pottermore because I want to know everything!. I want that feeling back where she is the master of my very favourite universe.

I know, not everyone loves Ron/Hermione, but I really, really do. This is personal. Now it feels like JKR broke something that meant so much to me.

So, it shouldn't be a surprise that I have a thing for D/s in my kink!fic (and in my not kink!fic too, tbh). And since I've seen this tumblr post I have basically been salivating over the idea of #professional dom derek hale. They way he just casually puts on his leather gloves... uuurgh. Do want.

There is great fic for it too. (It is a WIP though. I don't read WIPs but I read dom!Derek, so I don't regret anything here)

Jump Then Fall by [personal profile] linksofmemories [Derek/Stiles, NC-17]
Chapters/Word Count: 4/?; 28,000 words
Warnings: D/s, BDSM, a full list of warnings promises to come you can find here
"Um, my name is Stiles. Are you Derek Hale?"
"Yes," and now he just sounded ticked off. "Why are you calling?"
"I, uh, saw your website," Stiles said, gesturing toward the laptop even though he didn’t know why. "You know, about the sex thing. And you’re a Dom and stuff… and I would like you to dominate me, please."

This is the good stuff. It's moderately tame for now, because Stiles is still a newbie and Derek is very aware of limits, consent and communication. Which is exactly what makes this fic so great. I can't wait to see it continued.

I have been watching gay short movies on Youtube and these two are my favourites. (The languages are Swedish and Portuguese respectively, but there are English subtitles available).

Lucky Blue (2007) by Håkon Liu

Olle, an introverted, well-mannered boy with an air of innocence and sincerity about him has been camping with his father at the same camping ground with several other people for years now. A sort of tradition that ends in a karaoke party. Then one summer, a family friend brings her reticent 'city boy' nephew, Kevin, and his pet budgerigar. Olle accidentally releases the bird and what follows is a discovery of friendship and love between the guy who has grown up in a loving environment and simply accepts love for what it is and the guy who's apparently been burned too many times in his own circle to feel comfortable with it.

SO MUCH LOVE! The setting, the music, the boys... this is really a perfect short film. I have seen it an embarrassing amount of times by now. ♥ ♥ ♥

Eu Não Quero Voltar Sozinho (2010) by Daniel Ribeiro

The arrival of a new student in school changes Leonardo's life. This 15 year-old blind teenager has to deal with the jealousy of his friend Giovana while figuring out the new feelings he's having towards his new friend, Gabriel.

This is just adorable. This is a short film from 2010, but it was worked into a longer version which will premier in March 2014. I can't wait for it!

✿ I have two days of Uni left (tomorrow and next Monday) and two exams next Friday, and then this term is finally over. \o/
I have so many things I want to do, rather than studying, studying, studying.

Stuff I watched -- because obviously, I need breaks too ;)

✿ I am underwhelmed by Sherlock BBC. I just... I really did not like this season. There were a couple of great scenes but overall, just no. The cases --where there even cases?-- were boring; the villain(s) were boring; John and Sherlock's behaviour felt like character assassination, not character growth: they were either completely heartless or incredibly sappy.

Shameless US: LOVE IT! I started watching it last summer when I was still looking at tumblr occasionally and I saw some gifs that looked interesting. I had expected to watch primarily for the Ian-Mickey storyline, but I just love all of it. Right now, Debbie and Carl --and yes, Frank too-- are breaking my heart, while Veronica and Kevin make me laugh out loud. This is the series I looked forward to most these last couple of weeks.

✿ I started watching Elementary and I enjoy it a lot. I just really, really like watching clever people solving cases (I've read everything and ALL by Agatha Christie and this reminds me of it). There's personal stuff too, but not too much and I genuinely enjoy not-suuuuper-smart!Sherlock and very-smart-too!Joan. God, I love Lucy Liu.

Real, printed books with M/M romance and/or porn, you can find...

... on my bookshelf. Duh.
... on my bookshelf (except when someone's visiting)
... hidden away in the closet/basement/under the bed
... romance on the shelf; porn under the bed
... I don't own book versions.

[About Sherlock]I'm not entirely sure if I like the recent Sherlock episodes or not. Sherlock is either absolutely heartless in the face of John's grief or more human than he ever was before during the Best Man's Speech. I'm confused. I love Mary though. And I thought the way they shot Sherlock chatting online with these women was brilliantly done. I have missed superbrain!Sherlock last week.

♣ I'm looking forward to the next season of Shameless next week. :)

♣ Not sure about Teen Wolf. I didn't have the urge to log into tumblr in six months, so I feel miles away from anything concerning it.

♣ A bit late but: Happy New Year to All of You! ♥
I usually avoid New Year's resolutions but this year I'm gonny try to take more photos. Of every day life: home, Uni, friends etc.
Oh. And read one book a month. Can be a short one (or none and then two the next month, but I want to start reading again). I've already finished my quota for January. ;)

It has been raining for the past 10 days. It's a really depressing weather but I guess it gave me some quality time with my kindle. I have read two wonderful, long fics that have been on the kindle for quite a while, but I never managed to find the time to read them before.

The Death Stone by jakuako [Harry/Draco, NC-17]
Word Count: 62,000
Summary: Twenty years after the Battle of Hogwarts there are still Death Eaters roaming free. But when Auror Ginny Weasley captures Draco Malfoy in a fight, the wheels of war are set back in motion. Dragged into the fray once again by the call of duty, Harry, Ron and Hermione must track down a lost artefact before the Death Eaters can do the unthinkable – bring Voldemort back from the grave.
This was written for hd_bigbang in 2011.

EWE, 20 years after the Battle of Hogwarts. On a Death Eater raid, Draco is captured by the Aurors (Ginny & Daphne Greengrass). He is taken into St. Mungo's; when he manages to flee, he comes across Luna -- a patient of the Janus Thickey Ward. She doesn't have any memories anymore and her body an empty shell, so Draco gives her one of his own memories. This sparks a speedy recovery, but at the same time, Luna shares a lot of character traits with Draco... And Harry is Luna's healer and quickly falling for her. Harry also has a habit to remove his bad memories after a nightmare, which leave him with something like partial amnesia.

All the while, there are Death Eaters who want to resurrect Voldemort with a second Death Stone, so Harry, Draco, Luna, Ginny and Daphne follow their traces to Egypt to stop them.

I have no words for how much I love this fic. The characterizations are just brilliant. I love how the author uses and explains Pensieves, memories, memory loss and the concept that we are made from our memories. The whole thing with Luna-who-is-Draco is so well done (and well resolved, too; don't let yourself be scared away, you OTP lovers. This is a H/D story in all aspects. ;)). The action plot is engaging and kept me glued to the screen. Overall, this story is just a wonderful ride. Don't miss it.

All Life is Yours to Miss by saras_girl [Harry/Draco, R]
Word Count: 115,000
Summary: Professor Malfoy's world is contained, controlled, and as solitary as he can make it, but when an act of petty revenge goes horribly awry, he and his trusty six-legged friend are thrown into Hogwarts life at the deep end and must learn to live, love and let go.
Yes, I finally managed to read Stanley's this story. :) I feel like reccing this is like preaching to the choire, because you all read it when it was still not-all-that-anonymous.

Draco is the Transfigurations professor, Harry is the Flying Instructor at Hogwarts. They carry out a petty rivalry, but then one of Draco's hexes goes wrong and it lands Harry in a coma. Draco has to take over all of Harry's duties, including those as Head of Gryffindor. Slowly Draco starts to become friends with others from the staff and some of his students, and he starts to live. He spends his nights in the hospital wing at Harry's bed, often accompanied by his oversized beetle Stanley. (which is the most adorable OC ever invented)

A wonderful, beautiful, amazing story of how Draco finds his place in live. Featuring great OC kids (and how do I love that none of them have recycled names, yet each of them has their very own character?). And Stanley. ♥ This is one perfect story.

Beautiful art for this beautiful fic:

I've just cleaned out a part of my wardrobe and now I'm selling the still-good-stuff on ebay and throwing the not-good-anymore-stuff away. When I went through my bras I was like "did I actually ever wear these, they are tiny?!" and I remembered this link I found on tumblr on how to find your right bra size: Fairly Quick Guide to Proper Bra Fit and Measuring

"Even if you think your boobs and bras are fine, try it. It will make a big difference in comfort, support, and shape, even if you have small boobs or big boobs. A proper fitting bra can fix back, shoulder, and neck pain, along with breast soreness - and it can help you look 10lbs lighter, and your breasts a hell of a lot perkier."

Girls, this is a really, really good post. I've found my right bra size a couple of years ago (until I lost weight, but that's a different matter), but only after I spent like 10 years wearing wrong sizes. I mean, my breasts are not small, but they're not huge either and I remember feeling super ashamed that apparently I'm an E-cup. And they don't even sell them in a store or only the really ugly ones; I always have to order from the internet. And I'm not anywhere near porn star size. :)

I have been sucked into the world of Night Vale. It's a free podcast about a fictional town set somewhere in a desert, where Cecil Baldwin is the voice and narrator. He works at the town's radio station 'Night Vale Community Radio', which bring us all the news (and the weather is featured by a different independent artist each time -- so awesome!).

I'm not sure when exactly it started but now I'm seriously hooked. The utter ridiculousness of this town -with its Hooded Figures, The City Counsel and the Mysterious Glow Cloud...- it's addicting. I know there's gonna be some Cecil/Carlos at one point (or so pinboard/fandom/AO3 tells me), but for now Cecil is still admiring Mad Scientist Carlos' beautiful, beautiful hair from afar.

If you like audiobooks, podcast and crazy things... check it out. :)

Is anyone more involved in Merlin fandom and can point me towards a journal (I'll even take a tumblr) that reccs from paperlegends? I seem to have reached a point where I can't read Teen Wolf fic anymore, at least for now. It all seems to be the same, again and again, and strikes me as wildly OOC. (this is a personal opinion, not a statement on the State of Fandom, and wow why do I feel the need to add a disclaimer on anything Teen Wolf?)

As for Merlin: there are just SO many fics at paperlegends, and they are all super long and just looking at that journal makes me feel helpless at where to start. Help me out here. I liked this one:

A Beacon In The Dark by [personal profile] ZairaA [Merlin/Arthur, NC-17]
Word Count: 96,000
Summary: In a society where people with magic are persecuted, Arthur is a lawyer who takes on a prominent murder case. The suspect is a sorcerer: Merlin, Arthur's former childhood friend, who vanished at sixteen when his magic was discovered. Now, ten years later, Merlin is a prostitute, and Arthur has to solve more than Merlin's secrets to save the man he still loves from execution. A story about two friends, who after losing their hope, their innocence and their way, finally find each other again.
Rentboy!fic deluxe. ;) I really, really enjoyed this one.

ETA: I have another one.

Virgin Territory by [personal profile] ingberry [Merlin/Arthur, NC-17]
Word Count: 4500
Summary: Gwaine's parties are legendary. It's mostly because of the orgy in the basement where people offer themselves up for the greater good. Merlin figures that's a smashing way to get rid of his virginity, mostly because he's never seen anyone he from his high school at Gwaine's. The idea seems a lot worse when he’s on his knees, naked and blindfolded. Thank fuck for the guy who grabs him and hauls him back up the stairs.
OMG!! This was so hot. Highschool, I-don't-like-you-but-am-secretly-pining-for-you, first time and not knowing who is on the other side of the blindfold. LOVED IT.

Do you want to leave some nextgen prompts at mini_fest? Since nextgen_mas isn't returning this year, it would be lovely to still have a bit of James/Scorpius, Teddy/James or Albus/Scorpius during the holidays. Right? :)

I'm currently going through the last chapters of Prisoner of Azkaban on pottermore (not loving the new design by the way - the panel row at the bottom makes the way window too tiny; at least in my browser).

But the new content on werewolf reproduction is pure gold.
